Oola National School have over the past number of years, been part of the An Taisce, Green Schools Programme. So far the school has achieved the Litter and Waste, Energy, Water, Travel and Biodiversity flags. The children of Oola National School have been working on the Green-Schools programme in relation to achieving the next flag for, Global Citizenship Litter and Waste.
The implementation of the Global Citizenship Litter and Waste Theme enables schools to raise awareness, make some positive changes and discover how work on Green-Schools can positively influence our global community. The theme is concerned with creating knowledge and understanding about the link between environmental degradation and human rights. Students learn about sustainable development and are enabled to examine the world's interdependency.
Though our efforts as a whole school to come together and work on gaining our next flag have been thwarted by the Corona Virus Pandemic, we have, in class focused on curriculum areas associated with theme. We hope as the situation improves to apply for our next flag in the coming year.
